Said the following about Zoe Smithurst:

“Zoe joined Bridgeway in September 2012 as a Geotechnical Engineer and was brand new to the rail industry. Zoe had previously been employed for 6 years as a Geotechnical Engineer working on Greenfield and Brownfield sites for housing developments, a very different environment to the rail infrastructure.

Zoe embraced the Bridgeway SI/GI ‘can do’ attitude and the rail system in general. She has worked extremely hard to gain the required knowledge of working on the rail infrastructure in order to apply the appropriate rules when planning technical works, she often works late in her own time to ensure the job is planned to perfection.

Zoe has ensured her thorough understanding of the rail environment by undertaking Safety Critical course and planning courses. At the time of writing she is a practicing COSS, Safe System of Work Planner, and Safe Work Leader Level 1. Having these competencies allows her to have a firm understanding of all elements of her projects from a technical, safety, and rail perspective.

Zoe has undertaken some very challenging rail ground investigations since joining us and has co-ordinated them impeccably. Client feedback on Zoe’s performance has been second to none and has resulted in her being involved on larger and more prestigious rail projects. Zoe has managed Bridgeways involvement in conducting the ground investigation for the Staffordshire re-signalling project advising the Staffordshire Rail Alliance team where she advised on the best methods to adopt in their chosen locations to give them both best value for money and excellent technical information. Zoe ahs also delivered Birmingham Resignalling Phases 4 and 5. Access on these phases was challenging to say the least but with careful planning and meticulous attention to detail the project was delivered successfully. as an added pressure the Birmingham Project was chosen as the project to use for BCL to undertake their initial Principal Contractor Audit, no mean feat when trying to deliver a challenging technical project. Zoe’s attention to detail is benefits all projects she is involved with.

I have no hesitation in nominating Zoe for Project Manager of the year. In mine, our teams, and equally importantly our clients eyes there is no one more deserving of the accolade.“
