Said the following about Sue Hampson:

“On the afternoon in April 2015 around 14.07 pm a middle age male (35-40) got off the 14.07 train.

He made his way to the other Platform and stood next to the railings. Sue (Station Retailer) was arriving back from her break and spotted the male who looked in a distressed state. Sue went over to the male and engaged in conversation with him. The male told Sue that he wanted to end his life by jumping onto the track and in front of the next train into the station platform. The male told Sue he was feeling this way as it was the anniversary of his daughter’s death who was murdered some years ago. Sue spoke with the man for some time and managed to gain his trust and was able to talk the man down to street level and out of danger from both Train and Track. Sue continued to talk to the male and convinced him to go and visit his mother who worked in the local Shopping Centre. Later that day we were informed that the male had arrived back at his place of residents (Local YMCA) and was getting further help.

Sue says that only a couple of weeks prior to this incident she attended a session at Liverpool Central MOD Block were she was shown a series of short film all about Suicide intervention and felt that this gave her the confidence to be able to intervene on this occasion and save a live.

Sue also says she is now looking forward to the 1 day Samaritans course that the company is rolling out to all staff and hopes she will gain further skills and knowledge to help her in the future if she was ever involved in further Interventions.“
