Nominations for Rail Manager of the Year

Sally Ralston

Said the following about Steve McMillan:

“Ste displays the company values and behaviours on a daily basis in his role as IS support manager. He is always willing to make time to help internal colleagues and stakeholders when called upon. Ste offers a consistent service no matter the size or owner of the problem, he is confident and able to prioritise his workload to ensure the problems are dealt with on a needs basis rather than who can shout the loudest. He can be relied upon to deliver on his promises, often doing work in his own time to ensure people can continue performing in their roles without too much disruption. Although he is contracted on regular office hours, Ste makes himself available to everyone almost 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Anyone who has contacted Ste outside his core hours will almost always be met with a response whether it is a fix, some advice to help out or a simple acknowledgement. Ste displays his willingness to help Merseyrail retain its reputation as a leading UK TOC when he visits sites at unsociable hours to assist with problems if they are having impacts upon services or staff. Anyone receiving the control messages will no doubt have noticed an acknowledgment of his assistance on several occasions. In addition to helping people directly with issues and problems, he carries out lots of unseen work in the background to minimise disruption and keep services running, for example he will carry out essential maintenance on systems in the early hours of the morning or at weekends to minimise any disruption to the users. On top of all the help and support he offers, Ste always finds time for his own staff, managing, advising and helping them develop. Ste was also named as the Merseyrail Employee of the Year for 2014 at the Merseyrail Achievement Awards“
