Said the following about Sammy Zacca:

““On the morning of Wednesday 25th August 2015, 1N00 reported a person on the track at Hilsea station who climbed back onto the platform ahead. At the same time, a person reported via the help-point that he felt suicidal and planned to throw himself under the next train.

Sammy took the call and engaged the person in conversation whilst the BTP were called by another member of the team. The person kept moving away from the help-point to look down the track for the next service and Sammy continuously called him back to keep him talking as trains moved past at caution. This continued for the best part of 20mins until the Police were able to attend to remove the person.

This was a very difficult call at the end of a night shift. Sammy dealt with the gentleman with professionalism and compassion - I have little doubt that with no-one at the station to assist, if he had not been quick-thinking and got engaged with the person the way he did, the man would have strayed back onto the track and the outcome could have been extremely different for all involved.““
