“I would like to nominate Phillip Baines a Network Rail employee, Mobile Operations Manager based at Watford Junction.
Phillip Baines had finished shift and was returning home by train when he was walking through the booking office at Bletchley Train Station on the evening of 12th April 2015
Phillip Baines (along with the duty Bletchley MOM) became aware of a male who was in a agitated state and stated he wanted to 'throw himself under a train and needed some help'. Phillip (along with the duty Bletchley MOM) approached this individual and gained this man's trust and kept him calm by engaging him in a conversation until BTP officers arrived to assist.
Phillip then accompained the BTP officers/male to the mental health assessment centre in Milton Keynes in order to keep the male calm for some several hours after his shift had ended and Phillip due to go on holiday the following morning.
Without Phillip's (along with the duty Bletchley MOM) efforts going above call of duty this may have possibly saved this male's life on this occasion.“
