“Megan is a Social Media Advisor at Northern based at York ROC.
Meg dealt with an incident involving a tweeter who is regularly in touch. One night he asked when the next train would pass under a particular bridge saying he wanted to be "under" that train. He send a further tweet (via DM) saying he was in trouble and was going to prison.
Meg noted the tone was out of character and the content of the tweets were worrying, she trusted her instincts and approached Network Rail with details of the tweets and the bridge he was stood at. Network Rail arranged for the BTP to attend. They found him at the bridge and are now dealing with this. Hopefully he will get the helps he needs.
Although we do get a lot of grief sent to us via social media, we always take these kind of tweets seriously and we believe as a team, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Meg has started to train to be a Samaritan and incidents like this prove she has the character and ability to be a fantastic aid to those most in need.
Social media is another channel for our customers to use to talk to us and during incidents like this, it really goes to show how important listening to our customers can be.“
