The RailStaff Awards 2024

Said the following about Safety Truck team:

“The Safety Trucks have been on the road for 11 years, and in that time have been resource for all the Rail industry. The team have visited hundreds of thousands of site workers, office workers and members of public and engaged in safety conversations, discussions and training. The team is made up of cross supply chain, so truly is a collaborative effort. The team is made up of Jamie Meredith, Karl Smith, Stew Smith (who have been on the Trucks since the beginning) Ed Walker and Ben Manus. The team on daily basis would promote messages direct to those who needed it the most.

The team would work directly with local managers, to ensure messages relevant to the audience.

Touching Network Rail staff, Project supply Chain staff, School and Community safety teams, TOC's FOC's and even road hauliers, the team truly made a difference across the whole industry.

During the time on the road we have been instrumental in safety improvements on site and importantly at the forefront of cultural change within the Safety profession. At the start very few safety professionals would join us and talk to site staff, but as time passed the interaction and quality of message improved and the benefit of getting real time feedback was evident in changes on site.

In recent weeks we have been informed that we are being stood down, as facilities are now on site as well as opportunities to engage with onsite staff have improved to the extent no longer required, which is a legacy in itself.

I would like to nominate the team, as they have served the industry exemplary, been at the forefront of a number of changes, and won the trust and appreciation of all those they have seen and spoken to, and undoubtly stopped many members of the industry being hurt or worse at work.

The nomination for the team is to thank them, and show appreciation from the industry of their work over the 11 years of operation.“
