Said the following about Roger Nicholas:

“Roger Nicholas, OTM delivery manager for Colas rail, has gone above and beyond this year, in his customer service efforts for Network Rail, IP Track and the wider supply chain.

Roger has been an integral part of a team (collaboration between Colas Rail, Route Services and IP Track Engineering & Innovation) which is delivering Tamping Best Practice briefings to IP Track Renewals around the UK. It has been identified that tampers are managed very differently by various renewals teams. The aim of the briefing is to improve the understanding of tampers amongst renewals teams, to provide everybody with the same basic information, with the ultimate goal of improving site safety and track quality results. Tamping is the last opportunity to add quality to a track renewals core shift, and therefore it is essential that we get the best out of the machines in this time pressured situation.

The briefings could not have gone ahead without Rogers’s vast knowledge and experience of on track machines. Roger was central to the creation of the briefings material and video, and he spends huge amounts of his own time travelling around the country to deliver the briefings. This level of customer service goes far beyond the day-job, and the positive impact of the briefings is being felt by Network Rail and its contracting partners. He has a genuine passion for improving the quality we get out of our tampers, and developing the skills of engineering staff he meets in the briefings

Feedback for the briefings so far has been excellent.

“It is the best briefing I have seen for a very long time and I wish someone had done this when I was a tech.” B. Paynter Programme Manager, IP track

“This is turning out to be a really important initiative for us given the criticality of OTMs in our works. As you know, our access windows mean there is very little room for error. These briefs are helping us to upskill our people, so that we can all succeed in delivering a quality product.” P. Forteza, Project Director, IP Track“
