Said the following about Carine Marin:

“Carine delivers outstanding customer service by building strong, open relationships with our clients, using these relationships to really understand their needs and then producing exceptional work which meets those needs. In her role within SNC-Lavalin’s Rail Control Systems Team as Technical Director of Conventional and High-Speed Rail, she uses her world-class understanding of the European Train Control System (ETCS) to assist our customers in understanding what this technology can - and just as importantly, cannot - do for them.

She puts her ability to build relationships to good use in leading system integration activities: for example she is currently developing the system integration strategy for HS2 - a role which involves investigating a wide range of subsystems which require consensus from an equally wide range of stakeholders. Prior to this she was undertaking a signalling integration review for a UK trainbuilder, delivering rolling stock with integrated ETCS and CBTC (metro) signalling to a world-class project with particularly complex interfaces.

Carine thrives on excellent customer feedback -if she delights one of our clients, she is clearly just as delighted herself! In her three years with SNC-Lavalin, Carine has received an unprecedented 17 formal compliments from her clients and colleagues, and many more informal pieces of praise - one of which described her as “an ETCS dynamo”! This was in reference to her personal determination to deliver assignments to the agreed timescales and to refine her work until the client is delighted with the results. Clients repeatedly praise the clarity of her communication and her ability to present complex activities from a highly technical subject area in a way that non-technical audiences will understand.

Following an assignment to develop a safety assurance strategy for the deployment of ETCS on two UK routes, the client said “The quality of some of the safety strategy and risk management plan was exemplary.”

Following an assignment to review the risks of implementing a new signalling technology, one of NR’s Route Asset Managers stated that “He couldn’t think of a better person for the job”.

Following an assignment to lead the development of a standard for Automatic Train Operation (ATO) over European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) on behalf of NR, the client said “Carine was the face of NR in the EU and the progress of work there has been to what has been expected and beyond. She has also been a valuable member of the team and her experience and knowledge is greatly valued within our team.”

She has used her formidable business development skills in conjunction with her ability to build a rapport in a range of languages to engage with potential clients around the world. This enables us to export the skills and experience of our team in the UK to benefit clients in Europe, Australasia and North America.

Sometimes, supporting our clients involves giving them unwelcome news, and when doing this, Carine’s honesty and clarity is appreciated. Her dry, gallic sense of humour is an aid to diffusing these conversations and her clear work ethic and will for projects to succeed leaves clients in no doubt that every avenue has been explored before reaching her conclusion.

The greatest problem that Carine presents is that all of our clients ask for her by name and we only have one of her! Carine has therefore been generous in spreading her technical knowledge around our ETCS team and coaching some of our developing engineers in how to achieve customer satisfaction.“
