Said the following about Riley Barnes:

“Riley joined the Network Operations Department at Three Bridges Rail Operating Centre (ROC) as an apprentice in June of 2022. Riley has said that for as long as he can remember, he's wanted to work in the rail industry. He started looking into different ways to join the railway and saw lots of apprenticeships on offer at GTR. He was doing his A Levels at the time and applied on the off-chance that he might get in. Lots of his friends decided to go to university but Riley wanted to start earning his own money as soon as he could. Riley is not fazed about being the youngest person in the team and is relishing every opportunity to learn new skills. He has brought fresh ideas and a different perspective to the table. He achieved his Level 3 qualification in Business Administration in July this year. Riley is passionate about all things railway related and is a member of the CIRO and the Young Rail Professionals. He has a positive outlook and is friendly, proactive and outgoing. He has organised tours of the ROC and has supported Wellbeing Days and events over the past year and arranged a fantastic Family and Friends Day. Riley successfully applied for a position as a Train Service Manager and in October he commenced his training for this role. Alongside this he has signed up to undertake the Level 4 Passenger Transport Operations Manager Apprenticeship. Riley was recently invited to be part of a panel of apprentices at the TransCityRail South Conference which took place in September in London. Riley is always encouraging more young people to consider a fulfilling career in the railway and has looked after and continues to support our newest apprentices.“

“Riley has been a phenomenal apprentice to the team, helping support the other new apprentices including myself and has always created a welcoming and friendly environment for new comers.

He's never failed to back away from a challenge and has always embraced and sought help from us when he's needed it showing he has the potential to grow as a brilliant leader as well as team member.

Ultimately, he deserves it :)“

Caleb Dolding

Said the following about Riley Barnes:

“I am nominating Riley, as he has helped me develop as a person and also within GTR when I started my own apprenticeship and railway career. From day 1 he has been welcoming, hospitable and sociable towards myself and the new apprentices, helping them settle in too. His passion for the railway is amazing and it was great to work alongside him whilst he was an apprentice.“
