Said the following about Matt Lysak:

“Matt Lysak’s career started with Freightliner as a Heavy Haul train driver in 2014. Immediately, he was recognised as a potential Manager/Leader of the future within our organisation. Matt quickly moved into a driver team leader role at our Wembley/Acton Depot when, alongside his regular train driving duties, he was offered the level 4 Passenger Transport Operations Manager apprenticeship with Train’d Up. Matt embraced the opportunity and joined a cohort of 12 other managers to learn and strengthen his skills in operations and people management. This, alongside his daily involvement in competency management of train drivers at the depot, meant Matt could learn and obtain the skills of leading teams, improve his problem-solving skills and both manage performance and compliance. This exposure supported his final submission to increase train driver productivity at Wembley/Acton Depot by at least twenty five per cent.

Matt took this challenge to combine a busy work schedule with extra curriculum activities, to expand his knowledge within the rail industry and gain exposure and qualifications that would support his ongoing development. This was no mean feat, and whilst others struggled to maintain the balance between busy work life schedules and their academic learning, Matt thrived and not only completed the course ahead of schedule but also gained some outstanding grades and positive feedback. The training organisation had the following to say about Matt: -

Matthew was a fantastic candidate over the two years. Matthew, due to his role, had to build in developments via his PDP to meet the demands of the course and he worked with his manager and us to ensure he had developments in place for all future Modules often working and looking over Modules two months in advance. Matthew was proactive in driving all developments and was in constant contact to ensure these would meet the demands of his course and used his newly gained knowledge to support him in a new role within the organisation. Matthew took full ownership of his course over the two years and was a joy to work with.

Realising his passion for development within the role, Matt turned his attention to how he could help develop and support others to succeed within the working environment, so when an opportunity came within the Training team, Matt jumped at the opportunity. Matt can now be found delivering operational training to the talents of the future. Matt is methodical in his approach to training delivery, ensuring that all trainees have the support and knowledge needed to make them succeed. He will go the extra mile, often adapting to the training needs of those around him to ensure the best possible learning experience. Matt has a keen eye for detail and process, putting into action the skills he has learnt in his career so far to ensure the training standards and quality are second to none. He really is a role model within a fast-paced training team.

At short notice, Matt has accommodated the training requirements of the business, changing his plans to attend training to learn new knowledge and skills, from which he has written bespoke training packages to ensure that we are able to deliver training as part of successful business opportunities and delivering for both our internal and external customers. Without Matt’s hard work and adaptable approach, this project would not have been able to succeed.“
