Nominations for Rail Project Manager Award

Grace Roche

Said the following about Oliver Turner:

“Oliver is an exceptionally gifted Project Manager in the rail industry. He has a unique ability to bring various disciplines together to work collaboratively and independently to ensure the success of the project he is working on.

He has delivered key schemes across the business such as the Class 700 and Class 717 introduction and is now leading the ERTMS scheme for GTR, and is responsible for managing the team who will deliver this scope of work. Despite the many challenges he has faced, he has always continued to strive and deliver.

Not only is he a very talented Project Manager, he is also a qualified train driver, driving instructor and has a passion for rail modelling outside of his day job. He is also a big advocate of charitable endeavours and organised a '313 Farewell Tour' for our retiring fleet and raised £10,000 for a selection of charities.

Having worked for Oliver for 5 years, he has been a pillar of support throughout my time in project management and he is a keen advocate of opening up opportunities for others.“

Fergus Heath

Said the following about Oliver Turner:

“Despite the challenges of various lockdowns and restrictions, since late 2020 Oly has from the ground up built and lead a dedicated ERTMS team to progress the East Coast Digital Programme. It is incredibly challenging to find experienced ERTMS personnel, but Oly has an eye for finding the right skills and developing them. The team has been described as ‘A TOC within a TOC’ as it has to work across all disciplines to manage the scale of the changes which the East Coast Digital Programme brings to GTR.

Oly leads with proactive pragmatism and an eye for collaboration which has been key to the success of the wider East Coast Digital programme, particularly on the Northern City Line. Oly’s team always has an open door and is keen to help other operators get ready for the deployment of ERTMS. He does all this whilst looking out for his team’s wellbeing and longer-term development.

Oly has a great track record prior to forming the ERTMS team at GTR, successfully working on the delivery of the Thameslink Programme and class 717 introduction. His time as a train driver (and continued driving competence) gives him a highly sought-after perspective on the East Coast Digital Programme ensuring that the needs of the end user are considered at the higher levels of the programme.“
