“Our RSAS Accredited Northern TSOs patrol and secure the Northern network, our highly trained professionals onboard the network's most problematic services throughout the morning and up until the last services of the evening offering visible reassurance to both staff and passengers alike.

Safeguarding plays a pivotal part in the TSO role with all officers becoming "champions" in this subject, this best allows them to gauge situations, assist with decision making and allow them to achieve the best possible outcomes to assist some of the most vulnerable individuals across the network.

Officers have essentially become first responders across the Northern Trains network with them often first on the scene for some of the most challenging and distressing incidents witnessed on the railway.

Despite this, the Northern TSOs work tirelessly to assist those in need and continue to offer support and guidance to those who have fallen upon difficult times and look to others for help.

In the last 12 months officers have been present and assisted no less than 34 individuals suffering from suicidal intent and have managed to assist them in gaining the help they require with a large number of these requiring the TSOs to physically apprehend individuals to remove them from a place of danger whilst awaiting assistance from the emergency services, this often places officer's in great danger whilst protecting others and allows the network to continue to operate with minimal disruption to others.
