Said the following about George Mitchell and Harry Jordan:

“One day, TSOs George Mitchell and Harry Jordan were carrying out a routine patrol at the station. After disembarking their service, both officers' attention was immediately brought to a female who appeared vulnerable and distressed and found herself sitting at the edge of the platform. Both officers immediately made their way over to the female to find her speaking with a Northern Trains conductor, it was at this point TSO Mitchell stepped forward and gently introduced himself to the female who was now leaning towards the tracks and looking incredibly distressed. George slowly began to fact-find and gauge how the female had found herself in such a position with George showing empathy and understanding throughout the ordeal. Understandably, witnessing a young female in such distress was proving difficult for other passengers to witness with numerous commuters now visible on the platform. George continued to strike up a relationship with the young female and reassured her on a number of occasions how he cared and would sit and talk all night if required to ensure she felt like there was someone to turn to. TSO Jordan continued to assist by speaking with other passengers to gather more information about the female whilst the emergency services were called. TSO Mitchell sat with the female and continued to calm her down and after some back and forth managed to persuade her to move back from the platform edge whilst they continued their conversation. The female opened up to George about wanting to end her life whilst it also became evident of fresh self-harming wounds that TSO Mitchell also kindly offered to clean and patch up for her. A short time later the emergency services arrived and the female was thankfully taken to safety and transported to the local hospital.

I have no doubt if not for officers' intervention we would likely have been looking at a young female having taken her life and numerous members of the public witnessing a truly horrifying scene. Both officer’s behaviour, conduct and professionalism was impeccable throughout with TSO George Mitchell displaying all the human qualities you would hope for from an individual present for such a challenging situation.

From the initial approach to sitting with the female and making her feel like nothing else mattered but herself is something George and Harry should be incredibly proud of, there is simply no better achievement than saving a life and due to officers quick thinking and passion to protect others that's exactly what they managed to do on the day in question.

We are all incredibly proud of these two individuals who went above and beyond to ensure no harm came to a visibly distressed young female intent on taking her own life.“
