Said the following about Marie Chapman:

“Marie is an exceptional Revenue Protection Officer. A tough role at the best of times. Marie joined the team just over two years ago and immediately it was clear she was someone very special.

Her attitude towards her duties as well as customer excellence is nothing short of amazing. So much so that fare evaders have been known to thank her after she has issued them with a penalty! This is testament to her professionalism and care.

She constantly strives to go the extra mile. Keeping morale up amongst her colleagues. Whether that be a listening ear for those in need. Some much needed humour to pick up her colleagues. Or the 'breakfast club' she created soon after joining the team. Cooking for her colleagues during their break whislt on early shift!

I left the Revenue department just over a year ago but news of Marie's achievements still reach me on a regular basis. As manager of a station on route, to find Marie on operation on my patch is always indication of a great day ahead!

One such achievement shines out above all others. Recently she was part of a collection of colleagues who by no exaggeration saved another member of the teams life. Upon becoming aware that nobody had heard from that individual (who lives alone) after his annual leave. Marie just couldn't shake her worries. While many would just go about their day and believe it wasn't their responsibility, Marie raised her concerns immediately with her team leader.

She set upon asking others if anyone had heard from the missing member of the team. After a negative response from all, she took the decision to travel to his address with some others to check on him. With no answer after knocking on the door, she alerted emergency services before breaking his door down. What a good job she did! He was found unconscious on the ground, where he had been for three days!

Undoubtedly Marie's actions that day saved her colleagues life. Although still in hospital recovering almost four months later, with a long recovery ahead, I know he is most grateful. We all are. Well done Marie!“
