Nominations for Apprentice of the Year

Helen Fuller

Said the following about Kate Rogers:

“Kate is my nomination for Apprentice of the year based on her thirst for learning, community and safety involvement and the want to develop and learn in the future. Kate came to us with no previous rail industry experience and wanted to learn as much as she possibly could. As her Trainer, she often challenged me over certain things eager to have a complete understanding of situations and theory. Kate fitted in extremely well with her station team and offered to be involved in community and safety projects. Kate always supports her fellow colleagues during the Apprenticeship, sharing information she has found out that might be useful to them, not only in their daily role but also for their End Point Assessment. Kates commitment to her station and its community and her love for learning and development make her an excellent candidate for the Apprentice of the Year award.“

Heather Graham

Said the following about Kate Rogers:

“I have nominated Kate Rogers for the Apprentice of the Year as since she began her Apprenticeship in November 2021, I have been very impressed by how engaged she is as a member of staff, she has become involved in the Crewe Station Community group, helping organise the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations and various other community projects.

She also volunteered for additional duties working on train to assist and support special event group bookings, she is interested in getting involved in different areas of the business adding to her experience and development.

During Apprenticeship Progress Reviews I have been impressed by her excellent customer service skills, professionalism and awareness of safeguarding issues.

While on duty as a Welcome Host at Crewe station, she recently helped a person passing though the station who had some difficulties in her full time Care home and had left, wandering into Crewe station. She was clearly vulnerable and after Kate noticed her, spent some time talking to her, getting her water, she managed to arrange some support and help for her.

Just a great example of how people view train stations as a place of safety and how after training, staff can be in a position to support and assist.“
