Said the following about Hull Trains Safety Reps Safety:

“For two years running by the Office of Rail Road (ORR) Hull Trains has consecutively scored our workforce engagement culture as ‘excellent.’ This is attributed to the way all teams work together to keep everybody safe.

Hull Trains has a strong safety and sustainability record, all of which would not be possible without the dedication of Mark Shepherd and his safety rep team to ensure Hull Trains keeps running efficiently and safe.

In this year’s (ORR) safety report, a level 5 evaluation was given to the way that Hull Trains’ safety team works with frontline teams, and health and safety representatives, to achieve collaborative solutions through partnership working.

This outstanding approach to partnership and colleague working is part of an ongoing effort to reduce incidents of physical assaults on colleagues and customers. Results are already starting to be achieved.

A lot of positive changes have occurred in Hull Trains’ health and safety governance following all the work which has taken place over the past 12 months. This has been recognised in a recent external audit report and is shown in the RM3 scoring we received in areas such as leadership, organisational culture, worker involvement, audit, written SMS and the management of contractors and suppliers.

We’ve seen an uplift in each of these areas' scores and received a level 4 (predictable) in four areas. The report highlighted the positive safety culture which exists within the business and across all the grades which is created by the safety reps’ team.

The team has also been running the ‘BeSafe’ campaign, each of these themes will be designed to apply to a colleague in their working life to help underline the importance of safety.  An education video has also been produced to help educate colleagues about the initiative which has been further supplemented by colleagues sharing their own experiences with others.

This achievement is representative of the safety culture at Hull Trains and is in large part a result of the continued, concerted efforts made by Frontline teams, Health and Safety reps and Safety team members.“
