Said the following about Geoff Scudder:

“On 15th December 2014 Geoff Scudder was on duty as Station Co-ordinator at Skipton when he noticed a lone female was at the at the end of the platform. He knew that something was not quite right but unsure what was wrong. Upon speaking to her he found it hard to get any details and noticed she was not wearing appropriate clothing for the time of the year and that she was carrying a sleeping bag with blanket, which concerned him.

He took her to the office and made her a cup of tea whilst waiting for the BTP to attend.

The lady turned out to be suffering from depression and had been reported as a missing person 12 hours previous and had walked over 20 miles across the moors, soaking wet in very cold conditions.

Unbeknown to Geoff, North Yorkshire Police had mountain rescue, police helicopter and full PULSA search team out looking for her. In the end North Yorkshire Police took her to hospital to check her over before she was re-united with her husband and two children.

The emergency services confirmed that if it had not been for Geoff the outcome could have been a lot worse as she intended to take her own life.“
