Said the following about Frank Hoffman:

“On the evening of June 2nd this year train operator Frank Hoffman was operating his train 22 as he would on any other day. On the approach to West Acton station on his eastbound trip a passenger emergency alarm was activated.

After swiftly liaising with service control train operator Hoffman preceded to make his way back to the carriage to investigate.

When Frank arrived on the scene he could immediately see the severity of the situation - in the middle of the crowded carriage a male customer had collapsed and was not breathing. The customer's wife was also present and obviously highly emotional, panicing uncontrollably.

Frank acted extremely quickly, clearing a space around the gentleman whilst constantly updating the service control centre using his handheld radio.

Taking charge of the scene, he requested station staff assistance and contacted the London Ambulance Service. Drawing on his previous experiences with first aid Frank not only relayed precise details to the emergency operator but also performed full CPR on the casualty.

This continued for some time until the LAS were on site. Frank demonstrated calmness, professionalism and exemplary skills during this incident.

By the time the ambulance had arrived he had managed to get the man to begin breathing again, thus ensuring that he had the best possible chance of making a full recovery.

After the paramedics took over rather than taking time to himself Frank explained to the casualty's wife exactly what had happened and provided her with the reassurance she needed. Using his experience as a member of the Trauma Support Group he provided support to other customers that had witnessed the event - portraying a perfect example of what a valuable and responsible employee Frank is. He truly is an asset to LUL.

When able to do so train operator Hoffman quickly moved his train to get the service back up and running, mindful of customer service and the thousands of commuters on the busy trains behind his.

Later that evening, once the customer was being looked after in hospital the LAS contacted Frank's manager to inform that his actions had in fact saved the man's life, and had he not been present the outcome could have been very different.

Train operator Hoffman took no time off following the incident and did not expect any thanks for it.

I and my colleagues are extremely proud to have Frank on our team, not only did he set a perfect example to the traveling public but also to his fellow train operators. I would love to see him gain the recognition that he deserves for his extraordinary actions.

Please vote for him.“
