Nominations for Rail Team of the Year

Said the following about FELIX Team:

“The FELIX Project Team is leading the implementation of trailblazing and innovative track inspection technology (FELIX) across the rail network.

The dedicated team has taken a project with a lack of business buy-in, to securing funding for four units and planning for deployment in four locations across the network, with more locations probable. To make this happen, the team has pushed through barriers and led an Operational Demonstrator in the Southern Region and done so to great success. 10 users were trained and over 150 individual inspections were completed. From here, the benefits were proven and the technology is being deployed across 2023 and 2024.

Demand for this technology has exponentially increased and once deployed, will contribute towards a safer and more efficient railway. It has the potential to revolutionise our inspection of Switches and Crossings (S&Cs) for the better.

To generate momentum and a positive direction with this project, the team has had to transcend expectations, hold onto purpose, retain integrity, and embody dedication. To achieve such a project turnaround in less than 12 months is no mean feat. This is a credit to the work of Research and Development in Network Rail.

The hard work continues as FELIX nears deployment, but to fuel the last stages, the project team and all involved deserve recognition for their perseverance and belief in creating a safer and more reliable railway… not just for colleagues, but customers too.“
