Said the following about Darren Irvine:

“Darren, a conductor at Barrow was working 1C57 service when he was involved in a fatality at Silverdale Level crossing. The train came to a stand about a quarter of a mile from Silverdale Station with 101 customers on board. His first priority was the welfare and well-being of the driver (who has since praised Darren for his help, support and assistance). After tending to the driver he then needed to focus his attention on the needs and requirements of the customers travelling, as well as taking a lead role in updating and dealing with other internal / external industry partners and emergency services (FTPE Control / Network Rail Staff / Ambulance Crews / FTPE On Call Managers). He remained attentive, alert and supportive to the needs and considerations of those involved, receiving recognition and praise from customers as well as members of staff in attendance. Darren showed outstanding customer service in horrible circumstances.“
