Said the following about Christopher Brazier:

“Christopher Brazier has been a key member ETE design team for the Wessex Capacity Upgrade project. He has been taken responsibility for delivery of several elements of the stage work designs to reopen Waterloo International station and to modify the track work to accommodate the extension of platforms 1 -6 and has supported the other designers in many of the other stages. A key design that Chris was responsible for was the decommissioning of Waterloo South sidings and then to support the design for the diversion of 40 DC track feeder cables out of Waterloo substation. This work was particularly difficult due to the difficulty in tracing cables on site. Chris was then able to take the opportunity to work with the installation contractor installing the replacement cables into a new cable route under the railway and gain real experience of the works. The ETE design work not only included specialised use of CAD software but also to apply the Traction power design principles and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams spread across the country. The Wessex Capacity Alliance is collaboration between Skanska, Colas Rail, Mott MacDonald, AECOM and Network Rail for delivering £800 million programme of improvements at Waterloo Station. The ETE works at Waterloo station are worth over £8 million.

Christopher Brazier has been with AECOM since September 2014. He was selected under the Apprenticeship scheme in collaboration with Wiltshire College. Alongside working as ETE designer, Christopher has successfully completed HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with Distinction. He is currently working towards Level 4 Advanced NVQ in Engineering. His ultimate goal is to pursue degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

During his three year period with AECOM, before joining the Wessex team, he has also worked as E&P designer with S&C South Alliance. Starting with Willesden Points Heating as his first project, he was able to get grips of the CAD software and also understand the requirements of applying relevant standards and CDM (Construction, Design and Management) regulations in his designs. He was mentored throughout his design work and was offered assistance with the design process and ETE/Points Heating requirements. He has effectively produced his own CAD designs and has worked on checking comments in tight time scales. He was able to deliver the project as per the programme and agreed dates.

He then moved on to successfully prepare the ETE design for Battersea Park and Strawberry Hill Siding Renewal. He has also assisted with modifications to Signalling and Lighting designs and has updated the ‘As Fitted’ drawings with the Red Line information.

He is very proactive, persistent and takes overall ownership of his designs. He has achieved several key milestones within his term with AECOM alongside achieving excellent grades in HND. He has met and in many cases exceeded the expectations of his manager and mentor and is a worthy candidate for the Apprentice of the Year category in this year’s Rail Staff Awards.“
