Nominations for Station Staff Award

Said the following about Chinedu Nwabugwu:

“Having been Chinedu's Manager for several years, I am pleased by his work ethic, He Comes to work each day and gives his best.

This year he has been integral to keeping our passengers safe.

In August he was working at Upminster Station we had a situation where a person was on the tracks. Chinedu remained calm whilst under pressure dealing with the trespasser on the tracks at Upminster. Chinedu was aware a train was due to arrive on platform 1 and was able to stop the train safely without any harm to anyone and reported the incident to BTP.

the next week whilst working at Barking Station another incident where an ill person collapsed onto the tracks during the morning peak services, Chinedu along with other team members was able to ensure the trains were stopped and we were able to safely bring this person back onto the platform.

days later we received a customer comment:

I would like to bring some good work by a member of staff to the attention of his manager;

Today I boarded a c2c train from Upminster to West Ham. I took my Brompton folding bike with me. As I disembarked at West Ham, whilst distracted, I forgot, for the first time, my bike. The bike is worth £1,500, and they are sought after by thieves. I was concerned that the bike would be taken if not quickly recovered.

I spoke to a C2C employee called Chinedu. He was sat in his pod on the platform. I knocked on the door and explained the circumstances. He immediately understood the importance of prompt action and took exactly that action. He took details of the bike and rang Fenchurch St and Limehouse immediately. He took details of me so I was able to board the next train in the direction of my bike.

He rang me on the journey with the good news that my bike had been located and secured at Fenchurch St.

I was naturally relieved and delighted.

C2c and other rail companies often get criticised by the travelling public and it’s important that when good work is done it gets acknowledged.

I would like Chinedu to be thanked on my behalf for his excellent customer service, and polite, friendly manner, but most of all he "understood the assignment” and got right to it. Thank you, Chinedu.

Other staff (un-named) were great, the man who looked and found my bike, and the lady at customer service who returned my bike. I wanted to give a small token of my appreciation to the “widows and orphans fund” but this was politely declined as the member of staff was keen not to handle money in those circumstances, Understandable, she was professional. All the best, well done c2c.

For all this, he was nominated and won c2c's Star Of The Month.“
