Said the following about Chigo Orunta:

“Chigo Orunta joined the Unipart Expert Practices business unit in Unipart Rail in July 2014 having graduated from Coventry University in Economics with a BSc and an MSc in Energy Economics and Policy from Surrey University. Unipart Expert Practices are the specialist consultancy business within Unipart that carries out Lean transformation and Supply Chain Management consultancy projects with clients in the UK and internationally.

Chigo was recruited to become a Lean Practitioner who would work within the Rail industry and drive business improvement. Despite having no rail knowledge and experience she quickly settled into the Unipart team and her enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge enabled her to absorb the vast amount of information that came her way.

During her first 12 months she has worked with external clients including Northern Rail, Eurostar and London Tramlink.

She has undertaken and led projects as part of her development with our client’s employees. Her positive attitude and interpersonal skills enabled her to gain the respect and trust from seasoned maintenance teams that allowed the engagement vitally important in the quest to drive and sustain change. She has received positive feedback from clients and colleagues for her engagement and for her ‘willing to have a go’ attitude.

“Chigo has been brilliant at getting stuck into projects, engaging with depot staff to find out what they do and how things can be improved. She is a great person to work with clients as her easy going manner breaks down a lot of initial resistance to change and helps to smooth in new ways of working” says Mark Nogowczyk, her line manger.

During the last 12 months Chigo has had many successes including working in a supply chain environment; which was a new challenge for her but despite her lack of initial understanding she engaged with the depot staff and fully supported the transfer of new supply chain work practices and the establishment of a SAP system for the client.

Chigo has achieved all of the requirements of a Practitioner through her positive attitude to learning and development and willingness to apply herself in new situations. She is now able to work externally with clients on her own and has already started to deliver many benefits.

Chigo typifies the character and ethos of the UEP team which are working to meet and exceed the clients expectations. This has meant Chigo working long hours including weekends and night shifts on depots to ensure that the job gets done on time and always does it with a smile on her face.“
