Said the following about Andrew Houghton:

“On Sunday 29th June 2015, Andy was working at Cambridge Railway Station when a young child (aged approx 2) ran through the barriers toward the platform shouting "train".

The child was pointing towards a train waiting on Platform 7 which was not accessible from where the child was.

The child ran towards the train, however, and had it not been for Andy's quick response to scoop up the child, they would have fell off the platform edge and on to the track between Platform 1 and 4.

The quick thinking to stop the child falling was great in itself, however, a train arriving into Cambridge station at the time was already in platform 1 and was heading north toward platform 4 to terminate and would have passed over the section of track onto which the child would have fallen.

Observers of the event have said that it would have been less than ten seconds between the fall and the passing of the train.

A quick thinking act that saved a catastrophic accident by a very modest man“
