Said the following about Alex Boynton:

“I am nominating Alex for this award to give recognition for his commitment to Engineering as a whole, as he demonstrates the qualities of a truly outstanding Engineer. I am truly lucky to have Alex as part of my team!!

Alex is the most passionate and committed Design Engineer that I have had the pleasure of working with in the last 16 years. His drive and enthusiasm is second to none and his high standards and strong work ethic ensures that standards are set consistently high. This year he has continued to perform above and beyond his job description, exceeding every annual target set. He has delivered a staggering workload within the Civils Design Group in York for IP nationally. There have been numerous occasions when I have found Alex working additional weekend hours (of his own accord) in the office to ensure deliverables are not late. But Alex is much more than just an excellent Design Engineer when you consider the following.

- Alex has recently taken a voluntary part time role at the National Railway Museum in York to support this brilliant resource to children across the UK. Without people like Alex, this museum would not be able to run free of charge.

- Alex this year won the Institution of Civil Engineer Yorkshire and Humber STEM Ambassador award for his contribution in supporting educational activities in schools and Colleges.

- He has attended various events to support both the Network Rail Graduate Training Scheme and the Apprenticeship schemes as a volunteer.

- Alex has organised and attended fundraising events within his team to raise money for local charities such as the Wilf Ward Family Trust who support care homes for those with learning difficulties.

- He has attended university careers fairs to support the recruitment of Students and Graduates to the Civils Design Group in IP

- Alex has done all this whilst successfully preparing for and sitting his ICE Professional Review this year. He passed and is now a Chartered Civil Engineer

Furthermore, Alex has a unique personality with a perfect balance of humour, compassion and honesty which makes him a great friend, colleague and role model for less experienced workmates. If anyone represents the four NR values of Customer Focused, Accountable, Collaborative and Challenging, Alex is the one.“
