“Sonia personifies what a Rail Person of the Year is. She leads her team of Area Managers, and is a constant within the groups of stations she is General Manager for. Sonia supports, leads, and challenges her team, including the frontline at the stations. When there are problems within SE - normally the first port of call for anyone (even the ET) is Sonia. She is (and may not like this) Mrs Southeastern. She is the reason her teams do what they do, and do it well. During the pandemic she always had her finger on the pulse, and when SET moved over to DOHL, Sonia was around to answer questions, and support everyone once the stations opened fully, and all of those shielding returned to work. She shone again as the preparations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations were announced; then sadly following the death of the Queen, she again led from the front with plans which had been in place for quite a few years and reviewed regularly - for this she has been awarded an MBE; and she stood with station teams in silence remembering and honouring the Queen. A few months later, the coronation was held, Sonia was again in the thick of it, like she always is. She is an incredible asset to the railway, and an inspiration to all who know her. I am proud to work with her and for her, her door is never closed to anyone who needs to talk to her. She was a massive support to me during some very difficult times - she is nothing short of a superhero!“
“Sonia is an all round amazing person. Not only is she exceptional at her role but she is just a wonderful human. Sonia has been an inspiration through some difficult times. We went through Covid, where Sonia was someone whom we could go to for help and advice, then there was the Queens Jubilee, the Queens passing, and then the Kings Coronation. Southeastern managing busy London Termini, were right in the thick of everything. Sonia made sure we had what we needed for not only our people on the ground but for our passengers through some brilliant times and incredibly sad times. Sonia is an inspiration to us all.“
“Sonia is a people princess. Nicknamed Queen of the North as she is the general manager of the north side of business of Southeastern. Always supportive and caring, Sonia has successfully and safely delivered both national events like the queen’s funeral and king's coronation to local events like Diwali at the temple to Christmas event organised by the local school. Loved by all Southeastern colleagues Sonia was also honoured as a MBE for her contribution towards the community. I am nominating her as she is a true leader and born to lead person.“
