Said the following about Sharon Adams:

“I have known Sharon for a number of years now and have found her to be helpful and friendly without judging. I understand she has been on the Railway for several years and my first meeting with her was when I did a suicide course run by the Samaritans. She was very helpful and friendly and made a massive impression upon me with her knowledge but was not in anyone's face. In fact it was not long after doing this course that I heard Sharon had been given a Northern Star award for talking somebody out of committing suicide - something she played down as "just part of her job". She has worked shifts at Manchester Victoria as platform staff while bringing up children and then when the children were old enough she has furthered her career by now becoming a guard on the trains.

She is a great guard. She is good with the passengers. She seems to have the right tone for each person regardless of age and/or abilities. She gives out all the right information and does not seem to be phased by anything she is asked to do.

She is a credit and an asset to Rail Industry and I think she is fully deserving of this accolade.“

Said the following about Sharon Adams:

“My mum is a truly incredible woman who I think deserves recognition for everything she does.

She started working at Victoria station in 2001 as a cleaner supervisor, from there she worked her way to be a member of platform staff in 2003.

Whilst working all hours under the sun on platforms, she was single handedly bringing up myself and my 2 younger sisters.

During her years as platform staff my mum was always receiving praise off customers and being recognised for the amazing job she was doing, although she thought nothing of it as she was "just doing her job".

On 2 occasions my mum managed to stop suicide attempts with extreme calmness & helped those people to safety. She's also had to give CPR to a member of public who went into cardiac arrest on a packed out train, whilst keeping other travellers calm and staying in control of the whole situation until emergency services got to the station.

In April 2015 my mum chose to further her career and went on to be a conductor. This is something she always wanted to do but couldn't due to being a single parent of 3young children. Now myself and my sisters are grown up she took her chance and after only 7 months of being in the job she won a "conductor of the month" award.

My mum now has 2 young grandchildren whom adore her, she helps myself and my sister out with looking after the babies whenever she's not at work so that we can work ourselves.

I'm not only nominating Sharon because she's my mum but because I think she is truly deserving of this award with everything she does and all she has done for us & for Northern Rail within the past 13 years. She is a great asset to the company and this should be recognised“
