The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Apprentice of the Year

Said the following about Sean Murrihy:

“In the second half of 2021 I was fortunate to be interviewing for the next batch of E&P Apprentices at SYSTRA of which one was due to be placed within my team in Birmingham. I was handed several CVs by HR. All the CVs were quite good, but there was one CV that really stood out for me. After meeting the candidates it soon became apparent that Sean Murrihy was as good as, if not better than what was projected from his CV. Sean soon after joined our team, he settled in very quickly and instantly grasped the tasks. He demonstrated his interest and hunger to learn and also develop his skills and knowledge. So what did stand out in his CV? Well he had some very good academic results and some good experience in customer service. Best of all was the fact he had won championships in the Kick Boxing sport nationally and internationally. I knew straight away that this person will be a dedicated, hardworking and committed individual who has self-discipline and drive. I was so correct with my expectations and I must highlight that I am constantly being impressed by his work and the design support he has been providing. Nominating someone for an award is a huge recognition and hence it should be really deserved for someone to be nominated to avoid devaluing the importance of such an award. Sean has left me no choice but to nominate him for his excellent work and interest in becoming a brilliant engineer. He not only takes on board the guidance given but also shares this knowledge with his peers and keeps his more experience mentors on their toes with has inquisitive mind. Sean is a great addition to a great team and he really compliments the team. His organisational skills from the day of his interview where he had really demonstrated a great understanding about the company and the industry to his day to day design and delivery is second to none. Sean not only shows an interest in engineering but also a passion to get involved in delivering presentations, attending CPDs and also taking part in sustainable development/charity activities such as supporting Birmingham trees for life. Sean and young developing engineers like him need to be given the support, guidance and opportunities to help improve our planet. They are the key to a better tomorrow and for this reason I would really like Sean to be in with a chance to win such a deserving award.“
