Nominations for Apprentice of the Year

Becki Finch

Said the following about Ross Taylor:

“During his Level 3 Apprenticeship with AECOM, Ross has undertaken the FTN GRIP5 cable route diversion design for Wessex Capacity Enhancements, achieving an outstanding record of 100% Cat 1s for all designs submitted to date on the project.

On a complex multi-disciplined alliance incorporating multiple partners including AECOM, Network Rail, Mott MacDonald, Colas and Skanska, finding the right person to talk to has been a challenge. Ross has overcome this by learning to network, meeting people face to face and engaging with multiple people across the team to find the best person for each challenge.

In addition to the success of the design submissions, Ross has also been instrumental in implementing the successful use of Projectwise workflows and assisting less technology-experienced members of the team to adapt to paperless systems by becoming the expert within the section and sharing this knowledge with the team.

Line Manager and CRE Peter Froggatt stated that Ross had done the hard work in supporting project delivery.

Professional Head Kevin Goode added that Ross has become a CAD expert and that Ross's hard work, dedication and enthusiasm has significantly contributed to the success of a growing telecoms department.

Regional Engineering Manager Becki Finch also benefitted from Ross's CAD expertise when needing some graphics producing at short notice for a presentation to secure funding. Ross produced the graphics in just a few hours, using corporate colour schemes and an attention to detail that allowed them to be pasted straight in to the presentation.

As he completes his Level 3 Apprenticeship, Ross is now leading telecoms design for a platform extensions project covering 3 sites and is supporting business improvement initiatives by sharing his learning from his time as an apprentice to enable other sections to also improve.“
