“Over the last 12 months, Operations Support Manager, Ron Bradbury has been instrumental in delivering a new rail freight depot at Tunstead for valued customer’s Tarmac.
Ron has been an integral part of the management team within the business and has played a significant role in setting up the new depot at Tunstead in the Peak District from scratch, including resourcing the depot with new ground staff and working closely with and building a strong relationship with Tarmac’s local management team in the process. This has led to increased confidence in Freightliner’s ability to deliver, resulting in Tarmac awarding new flows to Freightliner, such as the Tunstead – Garston train.
Using all of his extensive rail experience, Ron has also driven safety across all the sites he is responsible for, raising the bar high through staff safety briefings, use of ‘Safe tracks’ (an Operational Observation Programme aimed at improving the safety of all employees by recording safe and unsafe acts) and promoting the use of IPads with the mobile ground staff.
Ron’s local knowledge of the area and his ability to get his hands dirty when required also places Freightliner in a good position to secure more business going forward.

• Setting up a base of operations for Freightliner ground staff and drivers within Tunstead Quarry that is safe, clean, efficient and aesthetically pleasing.
• Providing the ability to fuel mainline locomotives at Tunstead Quarry with zero environmental risk, removing unnecessary light locomotive fuelling movements from the rail network and removing the associated costs.
• Opening up Hindlow Quarry as a safe and efficient rail loading and dispatch operation
• Acting as an interface between Tunstead Management and the Freightliner ground staff, maintaining a professional and friendly approach.
