Said the following about Robert Young:

“Robert Young is a caring, engaging & naturally intuitive young member of staff. At 29 years of age, he has been working with ScotRail for 4.5 years, in the position of a gateline member of staff. Robert had finished the back shift, around 01:00 and was being driven home by Suzie, his fiancée. Suzie spotted a strange shadow at Milliken Park Station bridge. Robert asked Suzie to pull-over and he went out to investigate. A dry but chilly night, he saw a young girl in a thin zippy. Gently approaching her, he introduced himself, explaining that he works with ScotRail, and asked how she was doing. She responded, "just waiting". Robert asked for whom she waiting, with the response of, "no, just waiting". Robert suggested there were better places to wait, and that it was rather cold. She didn't care. He engaged with her, and she shared her name. Robert noticed that the young girl had recently self-harmed. He discreetly sought his mobile & texting Suzie to quickly call an ambulance. Robert said to the young girl that he saw blood on her wrists to which she apologised for bleeding on the bridge. He responded, "it's okay; it's not my bridge. I'm just looking out for you". Robert continued to calmly engage with the girl. He explained that the chat switched between warm, to cold, to no response. The girl suggested to Robert that he should just go, and that she was fine. Robert responded by saying "no, I want to stay with you". The police and an ambulance quickly responded. The police empathetically got the girl to come down off the bridge and safely to the ambulance. Robert later found out that the girl was only 16 years & pregnant. Regardless, Robert stated, "You see someone sitting on a wall at 01:00 - what do you - you stop, speak and offer any help or assistance". Robert stated that he hopes that this event will inspire others to react to something that just doesn't look or feel quite right, and help.“
