Said the following about Ricky Campbell:

“Ricky is very proud of the railway and ScotRail, a company for which he has worked for 32 years. Ricky currently works at the gateline (Glasgow Central). Ricky saw young girl, whom he believed to be around 16/17 years of age, alight a train. The girl's body language - walking scared, huddled-up and cowering - greatly worried him. Ricky calmly approached but she backed off, and backwards. Ricky was very concerned & knew he wanted to get closer, but not to further frighten the girl. At a distance, he asked her, "are you okay; can I help"? She jumped back. She was very frightened. Terrified. Ricky offered her his outstretched hand and offered her help. She didn't accept his hand, but did remain, cowering. He stayed with her; she then boarded the train she had previously alighted. He calmly followed her onboard, and walked to where she was sitting and tried to engage. Ricky explains that the girl was cowerin, in fear, but even with reassuring language, she didn't respond. No one else was present. He asked her to remain seated, as he knew that this particular train wasn't due to leave for a while. Ricky very quickly sought the assistance of the BTP and informed them of the situation & where she would be found. Upon their arrival, Ricky pointed her our to them. Later, BTP contacted Ricky informing him that the young girl was only 13 years of age & a runaway. Ricky was subsequently nominated for a reward, by the BTP. ScotRail awarded him a GEM (Going The Extra Mile) and put him forward for Employee of The Month. Ricky states that he was glad that he probably helped save the life of a young, vulnerable girl. But that it was also teamwork, applauding the efforts of the BTP.“
