Said the following about Richard Hales:

“Richard has helped with multiple major incidents on our stations in the Essex area.

At Laindon he boarded the train with a passenger who had dislocated his knee, he stayed with him to Leigh on Sea, the male’s home station. He was supporting the passenger, speaking to SDC updating them, liaising with the ambulance service.

Richard never hesitate to take control of a situation, he stays calm, knows the right calls and actions to take, he is an excellent presence to have in the face of a difficult situation for both passengers and his colleagues.

A suicidal female was found by Richard, she had overdosed on tablets, and he stayed with her. Called the ambulance and put his own jacket under her head to make her comfortable. The females boyfriend arrived and he stared with them both on the platform and until the emergency services arrived.

These are two of many many times Richard has gone above and beyond his role to ensure safety and passenger comfort. We as his managers truly believe he should be recognised for his work ethic.“
