“December 2014 saw the first deployment of FGW's Rail Care Team since it's conception. A Rail Replacement Coach service traveling between Oxford and Didcot broke down on a busy A road and very quickly was struck by a lorry causing huge amounts of damage to the coach and some serious injuries to our customers.
The Champions responded quickly to provide support and reassurance to our customers. They managed the deployment, united customers with their families and their belongings and provided long term support to those that needed it. They attended the hospital where our customers were treated and made contact with their families giving them reassurance and providing practical help such as travel arrangements.
Our Champions were available to those families that needed long term support, one family in particular needed long term support and that help only ended in July.
They gave up their annual leave and worked long hours to ensure that full support was given to our customers. They were professional and worked so hard to do everything they could to make sure our customers were supported through a very traumatic time.
The strength of the team was highlighted with the response that the customers gave us through their feedback and they thoroughly deserve to be recognised for their dedication and expertise.“
