He showcased at the Awards, the Bombardier Graduates’ ‘Innovation Forum’ London, created, developed and implemented by him at Bombardier.
Paul Burkholder’s presentation outlined Bombardier’s ‘Innovation Forum’, a cross-company initiative examining future industry technological development, in the areas of integrated transport, technology and the passenger experience. Working groups are developing business cases for potential future developments.
This forum goes beyond the standard expectations for a graduate, furthermore in the Quality area, and is creating multiple business opportunities.
Paul has been able to bring together a large series of individuals, across different layers and functions of the organisation and create a entrepreneurial mindset in the company.
A partnership between the UK rail industry and UK universities, RRUK is funded by Network Rail and the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB). The Best Industry Case Study Presentation award is designed to showcase exceptional industry case studies that show new, innovative solutions to some of the industry’s challenges.“
“- Came to do a short placement in the Bids Office, but quickly transitioned into the Quality representative role on the bid Core Team in was involved in, through consistent and valuable insight
- Pushed for and successfully deployed Quality initiatives to be incorporated into the referenced Bid (Quality Functional Deployment (QFD) and Critical Items Assessment (CIA))

“I met Paul in Derby during my internship in the engineering department.
Paul helped me a lot for my integration in Derby. In particular, he did met me a lot of interesting people in Derby.

“Paul elected to spend time in Bids working with one of our Critical A bid teams to input quality and drive that into our approach both for the bid and the proposed solution to the customer. He quickly became highly respected by the entire team because of his strong focus, pragmatic approach and obvious competence. Bids is a highly pressurised and deadline driven environment but Paul took it all in his stride. Even now, the team still requests his point of view and opinion on their strategy. “Paul came to the HSE function on a placement. I gave him a specific project to work on to replace a current communication tool with something more usable. With very little input from me and without much supervision Paul has surveyed the end users, identified an alternative programme and designed the end product. His approach was excellent and he has taken us in a new direction which we would not have thought of. It is particularly impressive as Paul experience of HSE management and has still managed to come up with something which is very powerful.
Paul's approach to his work is outstanding and the quality of his work will be a credit to both him and my function. I had not expected to get this level of improvement to my process.

“Paul worked with us on a Critical A bid opportunity. He was not only extremely professional in his work but he was keen to gain an understanding of customer focussed bidding. We worked on the development of a 'gold standard' Project Quality Management Plan. This was one of the first tasks in the new 'Left Shift' approach to bidding.
Paul demonstrated on a regular basis his innate ability to quickly grasp new concepts and to help to implement new processes in an environment that can be challenging due to tight deadlines.
