“Nicole Cassidy, Travel Safe Officer, recently earned an Employee of the Month award for her brave actions at work.
On arrival at the station, she observed a young woman sitting on the platform edge. Nicole approached the young woman and convinced her to stand up and move away to a safer place. She was in crisis and repeatedly threatened to cause harm to herself.
Nicole subtly instructed fellow team members to escalate the situation to control and British Transport Police, whilst she continued to reassure the woman and keep her back from the platform edge.
A scheduled train approached the station and Nicole quickly reacted by heading down the platform, raising both arms to indicate to the driver to apply the brakes.
At this point, the young woman had jumped onto the tracks and had started running towards the train.
Thankfully, the Driver saw the risk and applied the emergency brakes ensuring the woman did not come to harm and was taken to safety.
Nicole demonstrated calmness, control, courage, and effective collaboration to thankfully prevent any harm coming to the young woman.
