The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Graduate of the Year

Mark Maclean

Said the following about Mohanad Ismail:

“In September 2016, Mohanad Ismail relocated from Edinburgh to the Midlands in order to join telent’s Engineering Graduate Programme.

Mohanad had previously been focused on his academic studies with an MSc and BEng in the area of Digital Systems and Computer Engineering.

Once at telent, Mohanad quickly began to impress, developing key technical skills very quickly in order to get involved in the delivery of the telent Station Management product, MICA. Mohanad was responsible for performing independent Cyber Security testing on the MICA SMS, as part of this he had to harden the MICA builds to mitigate unauthorised access. Mohanad generated a report so all future builds can be hardened to the same level, along with the communication TCP ports used for the MICA SMS and the Verint CCTV system.

Mohanad’s particular skills in working with a team were recognised and have already been rewarded through the telent THANKS award. This is a process designed to reward individuals who apply the company values of Service, Commitment and Value in their role, whilst also demonstrating exceptional commitment to the overall success of telent.

Beyond his role at telent, Mohanad has become an active member of the Young Rail Professionals, YRP, taking a position on the local regional committee. Through this role he is working very hard in promoting the opportunities available as an Engineer in the UK Rail Industry. This involves managing and participating in numerous events and also networking with other professionals. Mohanad’s involvement in this positively promotes the telent brand as an organisation that has something to offer as a business and also as a perspective employer.

Mohanad has lead the involvement of the telent Engineering Graduates in the STEM programme. He has organised training for a number of Graduates who have now been appointed as STEM ambassadors, working with local schools and colleges, again to promote Engineering as a career choice.

It is Mohanad’s dedication and commitment to both his role within telent and to the UK rail industry that make him an obvious candidate for this award.“
