Said the following about Martyn Mason:

“Martyn joined Bridgeway in 2002 as a trackman and initially worked within track gangs on both Railtrack/Network Rail relaying and maintenance sites. From the very start of Martyn’s career with Bridgeway is was evident to myself and other Senior Managers within the business that he was destined for greater things, as he was committed and highly motivated, and very keen to learn new skills as well as develop his existing ones.

Martyn worked for a number of companies until he found the opportunity to join Bridgeway, when we expanded into provision of track personnel to track renewals companies. Due to Martyn’s ability and willingness to learn quickly, developing his skills and always looking for the next challenge, he was promoted to Track Chargeman and P Way Resources Supervisor and Resources Manager. Specialising as he does in permanent way, which has always been his passion, with additional training especially in Track hand-back up to 125mph and rail stressing he was appointed P Way Delivery Manager, before finally recently been appointed to Construction Manager within the Business adding a new facet to his career branching out into proper civil engineering, from Trackman to Construction Manager within 10 years is a fantastic achievement.

The attitude that Martyn has displayed throughout his career is rare, as he will go anywhere, help anyone and do anything that is asked of him whilst at the same time challenging himself, and others if he feels there may be another way of delivering the job within the parameters of each of the roles he has undertaken.

Martyn takes personal responsibility for his team and has brought other members of staff into the business, who also shares his drive and enthusiasm to “deliver the job”. Subsequently the growth in the team and reputation for consistent delivery and results are again evidence of his determination to provide the best service possible to clients.

I have no hesitation in recommending Martyn for the award of Rail Person of the Year and feel confident that his nomination will be supported, not only by those within the business, but also by Clients and others in the Rail sector with whom he has worked extensively over the years.

Martyn’s other passion in life outside of work is fishing, far removed from the hustle and bustle of permanent way and construction work and a way to relax and wind down, if he has the time, as like many of us within the industry, Saturday nights and Sundays are considered as working shifts, not for relaxing!“
