“Martin is a station manager covering nine stations. He could quite easily sit in his office, send emails and expect people to come to him (as some managers do). Instead, he goes out on his line every single day, visiting staff, asking questions, listening, making sure they see him and know he's listening to their concerns and making sure they're performing up to his high standards. He instituted a WhatsApp group for his team so they could easily and quickly communicate with him and each other, and a weekly conference call that anyone can join to raise issues or ask for support. I spent the better part of a day with him and his endless energy, enthusiasm, positive motivation and high standards had a clear impact on the morale and performance of his staff. He goes above and beyond and deserves to be recognised. I can't recommend him highly enough. If all of our managers were like him, we'd have the railway company we all dream of.“
