Nominations for Apprentice of the Year

Harriet Sergent

Said the following about Marisa Bajerski:

“Marisa won Network Rail Apprentice of the year award 2017, and embodies everything that an Apprentice should be. Hard-working, talented, committed and keen to learn and take part. Marisa has been an exemplary House Captain at Westwood. She has represented the apprenticeship scheme at National meetings and conferences at various locations in the UK. Marisa also played a major role in organising a successful open day for potential future apprentices that wish to join the Advanced Apprentice Scheme.

On western route she developed a balance weight calculation tool to help us identify any out of spec tensioning issues in our wire runs. This allows us to rectify problems quicker, and provide a high performance asset.

She has also done this for Heathrow Airport Ltd in the Heathrow tunnel.

Marisa also developed a stores signage system with a catalogue featuring photos and locations help to reduce time finding spares etc. in fault scenarios. This helps every member of staff at the depot get what they need quicker and be more efficient. The effect of this is massive as we can attend faults quicker and reduce the time that may be wasted having to return to the depot for tools and equipment.

She has gelled with the whole team, and has great motivation and an upbeat attitude.

Having an apprentice like Marisa as part of our team makes me feel positive and excited about the future of our industry.“
