The RailStaff Awards 2024

Said the following about Marc Malloy - **HAS LEFT**:

“Marc is one the most inspirational people I have ever met. A Trainer / Manager whose work ethic goes well above and beyond the call of duty; he devotedly trains Track Maintenance Apprentices as well as manages the largest national team of vocational trainers throughout the UK. His management approach is to work harder than anyone else and to set the highest of standards when leading his team which also transcends when training his Apprentices.

The natural environment for training Apprentices is very challenging; Marc as well as training, manages a team that oversees the progress of approximately 300 Apprentices nationally and 200 Traineeships, in which he handles with an undeniable strength of character which sets him apart from the rest – especially when you consider all the problems that come with supporting such a large amount of learning opportunities.

This could be said for a lot individuals but what really is astonishing and why we believe he is a worthy nominee for the Trainer of the Year is when you begin to consider how he juggles a demanding position in training with the equally and even more so demanding home-life. Marc has a young family – 1 year old boy named Rafferty and a 4 year old girl – called Bella. Balancing work and home life is hard enough but when the children are so young and one of them has serious and life changing disability, then his strength of character and how he meets the challenges of his professional life seems even more remarkable. Bella has RETT Syndrome which essentially means that she has extremely unresponsive motor skills; she cannot talk, walk, crawl, sit unaided, feed herself and has difficulties using her hands.

Throughout Bella’s young life Marc, along with his wife tirelessly are on a never ending constant cycle of hospital trips (4 days a week for the first 2 years of her life) and fundraising- so how Marc is able to balance what he does to such a high standard is exceptional and exceeds the standard norm. Marc does not see what he does as anything else but normal but I believe that his story is not one that everyone has to contend with and that the fact that he is so good at what he does at work makes him even more special.“

Said the following about Marc Malloy - **HAS LEFT**:

“Marc has impressed me with his dedication, persistence and diligent attitude towards his role at Intertrain. Coupled with his challenging home circumstances he is a shining example to both our staff and the apprentices. He demonstrates what can be achieved with the right attitude and hard work.

For me, the most emphatic qualities that Marc displays is his unassuming nature and his pragmatic approach to both his life and his work duties - he takes everything in his stride and always goes above and beyond, he is an extremely valued member of the Intertrain team.“

Said the following about Marc Malloy - **HAS LEFT**:

“Marc provided me with so much support during and throughout my time at Intertrain. When I started at Intertrain I was very green and new to training – Marc went out of his way to make sure that I settled in okay and gave a lot of support and guidance when I needed it the most. Throughout my time here at the company Marc has continued to provide that support even though he has his own work duties and responsibilities. Thanks Marc you have been a massive help towards my progression as a trainer.

Additional supporting comments from Marc's colleagues:

Ricky Wright

Marc has gone well out of his way to support me in my development and is a constant source of advice no matter what time of the day it is; day, night, weekends or even when he is on his holidays!

When Marc first joined Intertrain I was still quite inexperienced as I was a trainee trainer/assessor at the time. Whenever I needed help Marc would stay behind after work to give me the additional support I required. As I progressed through my professional teaching studies, he was always there ready to help me at the drop of the hat. I would not have completed my Level 4 in Teaching and Learning qualification if it wasn’t for the help Marc provided and has been a major influence on the trainer that I am today.

I believe Marc is an extraordinary person who is a worthy candidate for this award. He is always going above and beyond and even though he has to contend with challenging home circumstances and a demanding professional role – he always seems to have time for everyone.

Marc is an individual that is selfless in giving his time to those he comes into contact with. What makes it unbelievable to me is how he manages to balance very energy consuming home life circumstances with a demanding job and yet still finds the time support the rest of the team! He has made it quite clear to me that he can be contacted anytime of the day and I have had to use this offer several times even outside of work hours; a great guy who is as good as they come – good luck with the nomination.“
