Said the following about Magda Trafas:

“Magda, within a very short timescale, assumed the DRS Safety Manager role and embraced the challenge swiftly and extremely proactively.

Magda always avails herself to assist any issue within a business and welfare capacity whilst clearly maintaining a professional stance. She reported directly to the director in this capacity remaining focussed on all safety related issues on behalf of the department chairing related meetings and providing direction and innovation within the safety culture.

She has, ably and through cheerfully professionalism and consistency, managed the DRS Compliance (later HSEQ) team ensuring the company go that extra mile to conduct its business on the Network Rail infrastructure to the exacting safety standards. Magda secured the company Safety Certificate through consistent hard work and determination; later covering as ‘acting functional head of department’ during a very challenging period at DRS.

Her forthright attitude afforded to this position has been a huge benefit to the safety culture surrounding DRS where her innovation and a proactive improvement ethos has been captured as part of the company 20 year strategy. She has not only managed the Safety element during this period but kept a controlling rein on associated sub sections within the department.

Magda is an extremely popular member of DRS. She involves herself in all extraneous activities whilst focussing on her primary role. Her enthusiasm and drive to place DRS where it resides within a safety and quality perspective and keep it there by involvement and continual improvement processes are a testament to her fortitude and tenacity. Consequently and as a result of her tireless energies she has recently been rewarded by a well-deserved promotion to the role of Head of HSEQ.

Magda has championed the role whilst maintaining a professional, cheerful and calm demeanour and it is without question that she highly comparable with the best and deserves the fullest support in satisfying nomination of ‘Safety Person of the Year’.“

Joanne Purvis

Said the following about Magda Trafas:

“Magda has demonstrated excellent leadership skills when she was in the role of QA and Environmental Manager and had to also cover the role of Safety Manager after the Safety Manager left DRS. She managed to carry out both roles effectively as well as manage the staff in both departments. Despite the situation being incredibly challenging and hectic, both teams pulled together under the leadership of Magda.

Magda has embraced her new role as Head of HSEQ whilst still maintaining an approachable manner. This was always pertinent to the way she lead the department.

Magda is a reliable member of DRS and I know staff of all levels appreciates the work she carries out and the loyalty to DRS she demonstrates.“

James Davidson

Said the following about Magda Trafas:

“Magda continues to demonstrate excellent management and leadership skills no matter what role she is undertaking at DRS, whether that be QA & Environmental Manager, Safety Manager, or most recently Head of HSEQ.

She remains professional and calm even during the most challenging situations. Magda never shy’s away from a task, jumping in with a 'can do' attitude and always achieves results. Throughout everything, Magda ensures Safety remains a priority, and actively tries to change people’s perceptions of safety to a more positive outlook, along with her constant ideas on how to further improve processes within the HSEQ department.

Although since undertaking the role of Head of HSEQ Magda's workload has increased tremendously, she remains down to earth and approachable, and always makes time for her staff and other members of DRS. Magda also actively engages in charitable events run by DRS in order to raise money for various charities.

Magda is a popular member of DRS on both a personal and professional level. Her opinion is well respected by senior members of staff due to her continued dedication to her work and evidence of results.

Magda continues to grow within DRS and always goes above and beyond what is expected of her within her roles. She very much deserves to be nominated for 'Rail Safety Person of the Year'.“

Cheryl Ritchie

Said the following about Magda Trafas:

“Magda has excelled in her leadership to the Safety and Quality Teams during the last year. Originally being QA Manager, she reorganised the entire Quality Management system to produce a far more effective system whilst also promoting the QA team to encourage companywide interaction. The management system in place was generally disliked within the company due to a lack of understanding/training in use, this opinion has now been overturned following her innovations.

When the position of Safety Manager became available, Magda swiftly accepted this challenge and took the initiative to dual hat thus managing the Safety Team along with satisfying her own role. Now with effectively double the workload she ably demonstrated her leadership ability, bringing both teams together. The HSEQ departments are now able to work closer together with an ethos of appropriated cover.

Magda continues to work extremely hard with her teams and work colleagues to ensure that DRS maintain a highly proactive safety culture both within operations and general day to day routines. This forms part of the Company Strategy and reflects most positively in our monthly KPI returns.

Following on from this Magda has been recently elevated to Head of HSEQ. Her dedication to her role and approachability has ensured companywide relations and communications have been vastly improved.“

Said the following about Magda Trafas:

“I wish to nominate Magda Trafas for Rail Safety Person of the Year.

When Magda first joined Direct Rail Services it soon became apparent that she was not only extremely well qualified, but just as importantly had real passion and commitment towards maintaining the highest standards in health and safety.

In her role as safety manager she secured the recertification of our mainline railway safety certificate that is a requirement to operate trains on the UK rail network. This was a notable achievement, bringing together internal and external stake holders, showing clear leadership and delivering the project on time.

With her experience in several key areas in the field of Health Safety Environment and Quality she has moved seamlessly into her new role as head of HSEQ.

Magda is a very positive person and has a warm and cheerful attitude. She is always approachable to discuss any issues and treats everyone with respect.

Away from the office she represents Direct Rail Services in many charitable events and I am pleased to nominate her for this award.“
