“Lee was working on the River Neath Swing Bridge Renewal project. Lee forged a close working relationship and a great rapport with Network Rail’s delivery partner, Centregreat Rail. He epitomises this in his commitment to collaborative delivery, his personal passion and drive really assist our delivery partner to deliver the project as efficiently and safely as possible. He is able to do this because his personality lends itself to him creating good working relationships with people of all levels. One of the challenges Lee made to the supplier was to jointly review the rescue plan in the event that someone was incapacitated whilst working on the scaffold under the bridge and how they would be safely recovered. To check the rescue plan Lee suggested and agreed with the Supplier to stage an actual rescue with the emergency services.
Lee organised a successful rescue event with local fire brigade services from different catchment areas to have a joint on-site learning rescue event with our Supplier and their subcontractors to recover an injured person on the scaffold. Lee invited other Stakeholders such as the Harbourmaster, and Network Rail’s safety managers from different regions to attend and learn. Lee also organised for a drone to record the event so that it could be shared with others. By making this event happen Lee not only provided an invaluable learning event for multiple stakeholders but helped create relationships between different parties that should be useful for any unplanned rescues on this project, as well as relationships that can be used on other projects to help keep people safe and well.“
