Said the following about Kevin Bayley:

“Kevin Bayley is no ordinary person working on the railway. His enthusiasm is infectious, his skills are admirable, and his willingness to get stuck in to whatever comes his ways makes him a true role model in the industry. In addition to his full time role, he has volunteered his own time to be an Environment Champion, a member of Southern’s Stakeholder Advisory Board (SAB) and an Engagement Champion.

Kevin has been a Revenue Protection officer for many years and his performance in this role has been exemplary. His manager praised Kevin’s attitude as “proactive and conscientious”, which is certainly no mean feat when dealing with ticketless travel.

However, what really makes Kevin stand out is all the extra projects he gets involved in, on top of his role. As an Environment Champion, Kevin has gone out of his way to get involved and inspire others to reduce our impact on the environment. He carefully listens to the challenges that arise in creating and enabling projects to improve our environmental performance, in order to find the most positive way forward. He’s never afraid to get his hands dirty – quite literally in the case of East Croydon station, where he and a colleague spent hours sifting rubbish to help make the station our first “Zero waste to landfill” location. From achieving his Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment Foundation Certification, to speaking on behalf of Southern at industry sustainability forums Kevin has become an expert in the field of sustainability for our industry, all in his own time. Through his hard work and dedication, Kevin is turning his passion into a profession and has recently been successful in his application to become an Environment Manager with us.

At the same time as the above, Kevin’s work with the SAB has seen him attend meeting and visits in his own time, whilst providing valuable and reliable experience, which members of the board have described as “always considered and invaluable”. Kevin has always been the first to volunteer to help with SAB projects and recently spent a very full two days judging the best Southern has to offer our internal service quality completion.

On top of all the above, Kevin has gone out of his way to volunteer as an Engagement Champion, in advance of the integration of Southern and Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR). Bringing two companies together was never going to be easy and Kevin’s contribution helped shape the future of GTR, as he represented the views and ideas of his colleagues to many seniors members of the team.

Kevin is now settling into his new role with GTR as an Environment Manager, a fantastic recognition of his hard work and dedication to reduce our impact on the environment, engage with our passengers and staff.“
