The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Award for Charity

Jerry Dickinson

Said the following about Kevin Adlam:

“Five years ago, whilst attending the funeral of the son of one of my staff, I had an idea that it would be very fitting and appropriate to try and operate a charter train between the North West and Drax Power station as a memorial to the 11 year old, but also to try a raise a bit of money and profile of the Martin House Children’s Hospice in North Yorkshire where she and her son had relied upon. In order to do this I contacted Kev, who helped run the volunteer Branch Line Society and whose work raising money for various charities was well known. The upshot was that with Kev the leading light, we operated the train and raised around £18k, some 5 years later the team that Kev leads has now delivered 10 projects for Martin House, raising over £1/4m. He gives up his spare time to plan, and deliver these trains, always with a smile on his face, and his skills bring together disparate parts of the industry for the greater good. It goes without saying that as well as the Martin House trains, there are multiple weekends where he plans and delivers for other charities, notably the Railway Children. This nomination is in recognition of all of those activities where he helps our industry prove it can be the very best and most collaborative.“
