“Keith is a traincrew supervisor of many years standing based at Birkenhead Central, the largest Merseyrail depot with over 200 traincrew. This year has proven a real challenge with high absence levels within the function. Keith has taken the baton and run with it, he has been incredibly proactive in covering shortages of staff. His actions led to the business having greatly reduced train cancellations, which is fantastic for both Merseyrail & the customer.
Keith saw traincrew shortage as a challenge and if I was 3 drivers short of covering a full service, if Keith was on duty as his manager I knew I could rely on him reducing the impact of staff shortage significantly. The saying "think outside the box" is a cliché but one that could definitely be applied to Keith.
There has also been some staffing issues within the traincrew supervisor office and Keith has taken it upon himself to help integrate new starters into the role, often in his own time.
Keith has been a shining light for myself throughout 2022 and in my opinion thoroughly deserves this nomination.“
