Said the following about Karen Parker:

“Karen Parker is a dedicated and selfless individual who deserves to be recognised for her extraordinary efforts in organising GB Railfreight’s first ever Health and Wellbeing Conference which organised a series of events and interactive sessions throughout June 2023.

Karen’s day job is in procurement, however, her passion for supporting staff and promoting healthier lifestyles has seen her deliver phenomenal work outside her remit. She does this purely because she cares about people and wants to help others.

Karen singlehandedly organised the conference which included a range of activities, from online webinars with external specialists, to Joe Wicks style group workouts and in-person events in our offices. The events covered important topics such as mental health, neurodiversity support, fatigue & sleep and menopause. Karen carefully curated the sessions and organised the events in her own time and around her day job, driven by a desire to help others and normalise conversations that perhaps have historically been challenging.

Karen seeks no praise or recognition for this work, but the business would love for her to realise just how much the work has made such a positive impact and has been appreciated by the senior leadership team and our staff. Her work has inspired us to organise follow-up events on these important topics.

“Karen was the true driving force in organising our first-ever Health and Wellbeing conference. Karen not only worked tirelessly to secure external expert speakers, she galvanized GBRf staff to step up and want to do their own talks. The conference just grew in momentum as the month went on, with staff volunteering to do their own sessions, this was all triggered by the passion and determination which Karen had to make this event a success.”

Tim Hartley, Director for Business Development, GB Railfreight.

Alongside organising key health and wellbeing events, Karen devotes so much of her own time to her role as a Wellbeing Champion in the business and creates content for our wellbeing centre platform which promotes mental health awareness and support. Her work has certainly improved lives and helped our organisation create a healthier culture“
