Said the following about Jim Shuttleworth - **HAS LEFT**:

“I would like to nominate Jim Shuttleworth for the life time achievement award, Jim joined the railway in 1977 at Springs Branch as a second man and has been involved in driver operation and management ever since. Jim has driven diesel and electric engines and when he was promoted to the position of Instructor Driver at Preston depot had the responsibility of instructing new and qualified drivers on various traction's. Since 1992 Jim has been involved in the management and assessment of drivers as well has managing many changes both operationally and culturally that have taken place within the industry as both a Traction Inspector and a Driver Team Manager.

During his long and illustrious career Jim was involved and influential in the introduction of the 'Green Banner' repeater signal. When Virgin introduced the new Pendolino fleet to the industry and increase in line speed to 125 mph Enhanced Permissible Speeds (EPS) that came with it, Jim successfully delivered the signal sighting of all the signals on test site 'A' between Carlisle and Carnforth and also all signals in the Manchester South area to comply with the 125 mph running as part of the project delivery.

After 40 years in the rail industry Jim has decided to call time on his career and retire. His enthusiasm and passion for railway operations along with vast his experience and knowledge will be greatly missed and a sad loss to the industry.“
