Nominations for Samaritans Lifesaver Award

Alice Morton

Said the following about Jason Blow:

“Jason's quick thinking and willingness to listen and help are the reasons why I am nominating him for the Samaritans Lifesaver Award. Without Jason's intervention, a person may have taken her own life on the railway. Without Jason's quick thinking, her friends may also have been killed or injured.

While on a routine patrol in Kent on 27th May 2015, Jason and his colleague James were flagged down by an off-duty police officer at a foot crossing with a sad history.

The officer was concerned about a group of youths who seemed to be 'messing about' although it transpired that they were trying to coerce their vulnerable friend away from the tracks.

Jason earned the young woman's confidence and it was with him that she wanted to talk. Jason's understanding and willingness to listen helped to save this young lady's life and get her the help she vitally needed.

Jason said that it was thanks to the Samaritans Managing Suicidal Contact course that he felt confident in this situation, "It has helped me in so many ways just knowing what to say and what to do."

Both Jason and James acted in a professional and calm manner, dealing with an emotionally difficult situation. They are a credit to their employers and to Network Rail whom they represent.“
